Are You Ready for Some...SOCCER?!

Today was the first day of soccer season.  Noah and Julian were both very excited to get and the fields and play with their teams.

Julian is a Bubble Guppy and plays with other kids between ages 2 & 3 (no surprise he's the biggest kid on his team - my baby Goliath).  He really surprised Leo and I when we arrived because instead of clinging to a leg, or high-tailing it for the playground like he did every Saturday last season, he took off for a ball and dribbled all over the field for a good 10 minutes.  He even took some shots at goal!  He listened to the coach for a while but lost interest and started wandering when it came time for drills.  45 minutes is a really long time to keep a 2 - 3 year old crowd entertained and interested in one thing, so I was just happy he showed so much enthusiasm in the beginning.

Noah is on the Blue Dolphins this year with a coach and teammates he has played with for several seasons.  He has so much energy and can run for days.  He even told Leo that he would be ok if he didn't rest before his game because he "keeps going and going and never gets tired."  We just had to laugh, mainly because we know it's true.  I'd have to say the most exciting thing for Noah's team this year is the introduction of goalies.  So at some point Noah will get to try his hands behind the net...we shall see if he inherited his dad's keeper skills or if he's meant to play on the field like his mom.  At this particular game Noah showed some stellar defense skills, helping get a few plays away from his goal line.  He also continues to show he has the strength and speed to be a striker.  No goals this game, but plenty of attempts.

All in all a great first day of soccer.  I can't wait to see how the boys progress as the season continues.
