Making Tamales

As we do every year, we made tamales so that we could enjoy them together as a family on Christmas day.  Let me start by saying they were SO good!  Extra yummy and moist this year!  We also made a record number of them - around 11 dozen.  I was shocked when my mom gave me that tally.  I know we were able to turn out so many because we had 5 pairs of hands helping out this year - thanks Laura!  Of course we had the usual suspects too, mom, Jamie and grandma (and me).  And I had Naomi with me since she's an up and coming tamale maker.  One day soon she will take over washing the ojas and Jamie will have to spend more time making the tamales instead of hiding at the sink.  Hehe.  I snapped a few pictures of our fun day together.

5 pound tamale (maybe not but it was a huge one)

See, the one on the left is that same 5 pound tamale.  Look how much bigger it is than the other.  That was my ode to Leo tamale.  He makes them huge when he helps out.
